Next (Last for the time being) big project underway. An upstairs bathroom, to be built directly above the current bathroom.

Hole in the ground so the building inspectors can check the foundations are OK for two floors. They say are, but how they can check is a mystery

No, there isn’t going to be a door here, but it’s being kept open for access for as long as possible
While the builders are here, I’m also getting a door moved. This will make the layout of the landing a lot easier to deal with, although it does mean a lot more disruption, with two rooms having to be packed away. There are boxes everywhere. And dust.
In other news. Christine finished her visit refurbishing the vintage potato chipper that was the doorstop when we moved in. Other visitors picked the worst day of the month to call in – very wet
Harvesting continues…
In the garden, the raised beds are being set up for winter. Green Manures on some and a second Strawberry bed. The flowers are just about holding up, and the woodland area by the gate has been cleared of a thousand or so Damson and cherry saplings, and some bulbs and other plants added for spring.
Autumn colour in the garden. The ‘Golden Hornet’ crab apple is a great favourite with the blackbirds.
Meet Penny (The name is on the front but you can’t see on these pictures) She’s a 50 year old lawn mower that the neighbour has had in his garage for fifty years. We towed it round the corner, but a little fettling and she’s good to go. Contrary to popular belief we are not planning to re-enact The Good Life and get a trailer and sell the cars 🙂
Wildlife in the house and garden. Well, maybe the cats aren’t very wild. Badger is glad to have the ‘hot TV’ back for the winter, he spends all of his time in front of it. The pheasants and foxes are around a lot, but I can’t seem to get a decent picture. The last ones are from a trail camera that is left in the garden or orchard. I’m trying to get a picture of the deer (probably muntjac) that keep leaving their calling cards there.
And finally, a mystery apple. Working from the plan left for us by the previous owners who set up the orchard I’ve identified all of them, apart from this one. It’s not on the plan. It’s late, small and russet, and probably an old variety like all of the others.
