2018 – End of October

The big news has been the revamping of the porchservatory (It’s a bit big for a porch, although it is one, but not quite a conservatory…).

Before – rotten windows, leaky roof and only a walkway between the doors.

During…

And after – admittedly it sill needs trivial things like flooring, skirting boards, decorating and furnishing – but look at those shiny windows!

Although that’s been the biggest change, other things have been happening too:

The weather was unseasonably warm when Helen and Arna came to visit, so after dining al fresco we had a trip to the seaside, complete with shell hunting, sandcastles, and paddling for the only one in waterproof boots (it wasn’t that warm!)

Outside, things are starting to look a little autumnal, but I measured for the raised beds so I could plant the overwintering onions, and Andy got a few coats of paint on the side of the barn that has been refurbished.

Inside, most of the activity has been moving boxes in and trying to find homes for things. We did have a power cut from 2pm to 9pm just after we’d arrived one weekend, but the kitchen woodstove came to the rescue for making coffee and dinner, and with the main stove for warmth and a few candles we were set (Andy did miss the telly though…). A couple of sofas and a rug make the front room look a bit more homely for now, and a temporary cabinet in the kitchen gives a couple of feet of much needed workspace until we get it refurbished fully.

The weather has been mixed, but we did get an amazing red sky and a double rainbow.

And a couple of visitors from up the lane came to see how we were settling in.
