Another quiet month here. Not too much happening in the garden, as the weather was quite frosty and there was Christmas to look forward to. I did make a start on pruning the fruit bushes though. And Helen helped me replace the arch which had fallen when the main support tree died and most of it had blown down. We chose to go for the bonus double arch design.
Of course as the weather turned colder and the days were short, we had to have the obligatory long power cut. (Short ones are quite common). Here we are relying on flame power for heating and lighting.
Bird update. A single swan has taken up residence in the field opposite the gate, and my mate ‘Compost bin Robin’ now demands his payment of meal worms before I am allowed to do any work at that end of the garden.
Andy has kept himself busy making a tiny model of the STA ship Sir Winston Churchill that I used to sail on. When you can hardly see the lane in front of the house you know it’s better to stay indoors.
Bright and frosty in the garden
These cold clear days may not be much good for groundwork, but they are great for bracing beach walks.
And finally, end of the year and Christmas. After much uncertainty over what the Covid situation would make it possible, or sensible, to do, we ended up having a Merry Little Christmas. I hope you did too. Here’s to 2021 when hopefully we can get things a bit back to normal.
