2019 – August

Summer sunshine means lots of visitors, and time spent in the garden and on the beach. Alex was still here at the start of the month, so we put him to work. We had an overflow tent in the garden (The cats wouldn’t allow Fitz the dog in the house…) The mobile country cottage turned up a few times, , a puppy from next door, and even a sparrow called in for a visit.

Changes were limited during this time, though inside, we finally got some furniture for the bedroom, and outside put in a quick border to brighten the view from the conservatory filled with bedding plants for now.

Harvesting continues, with most crops doing well. The earliest apples are just about ready, and no visitor is allowed to leave without several goody bags. Courgettes, tomatoes and cucumbers are compulsory, everything else is optional.

I’ve been really pleased with the flower beds too, considering how little attention they have been given. Yes, there are weeds, and yes, it’s all a bit random, but no-one can say it’s not colourful!

And the butterflies seem to love it too.

And finally, a candid shot of two locals watching the harvest. You have to make your own entertainment in the country…
