After the miserable weather in May the sun finally came out to play. And finally time for the long planned revamp of the outbuilding we call ‘the barn’ (A bit grandiose, but not sure what else to call this large structure) This was a major undertaking, and involved us bringing in a foreign worker from the North East to work on it, (Thanks Dad!) Fortunately he brings his own accomodation, and his rates are very reasonable 🙂 We are very pleased with the final result. The house may blow down, but the barn will stay put!
We did have a few other visitors this month, including a friend not seen for about 40 years who called in with her husband for a break while on a round the coast cycle ride.
And we even left the premises occasionally. We did an antique/junk shop tour of Horncastle and found the most scary yard full of old china and glass. Some of it wasn’t even broken!
Proof that it got hot! At least while the work was going on with the barn. Although at the start of the month paddling did still have to take place in a jacket.
And those not interested in gardening can look away now. Because of the cold spring things were a bit slow to get going, although by the end of the month there was a bit less bare soil, and a bit more colour around. One my unexpected favourite parts of the garden this year has been the mini meadows.. Basically: turf was stripped, all spare seed distirbuted, and then they were left to get on with it. And they’ve been marvelous so far. Not really widflower madows, as there are a lot of garden annuals mixed in, but still achieving the meadow effect with very little effort. We had to do a little wildlife prevention: netting the brassicas, and fitting screens to the polytunnel, as the pigeons were getting hungry.
